(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Rescue from Drowning. Yesterday afternoon a boy fell out of a boat into deep water, near Port Chalmers. An engine was passing along the railway line at the time, and the driver (Bracebridge) stopped her, swam off to the boy, and rescued him. Canterbury Markets. Christchurch grain market is still very quiet, and there is nothing to report. Retail prices are—fresh butter, 10d per lb ; cheese, 6d to lOd per lb; beef 2d to 6d per lb ; mutton, 2d to 4d per lb ; lamb, 2s Gd to 3s 6d per quarter; pork, 7d per lb; ham, lOd per lb ; bacon, 9d per lb. WELLINGTON. The Premier leaves for the South this evening, and will be absent a few days. Informations under the Gaming and Lotteries Act against Sir William Fitzherbert, the Hon. John Martin, and two other gentlemen, for taking part in a sweepstake on the Halt racecourse, Case now being heard before magistrate and three J.P’s.
