CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE MARKET. (From Canterbury Times.) There lias been nothing stirring in the grain market during the week ending the Orh. business continues quiet, with little disposition shown to operate. Wheat has in no way changed, and last samples arc quoted at 4s 6d to 4s <d. Transactions have not embraced any great cptantily. Oats stand at last week’s quotations. There are buyers at Is 10.1 to 2s for feed and 2s Id for milling sorts. Most of the business done has been for local use. Barley. —The business in this has been limited. Prices remain firm at late quotations for any chance parcels that offer. Flour.—Millers quote £ll for best brands. Grass Seed. —Forward offers of the new crop have been made without loading to sales. Dairy Produce is without alteration in either price or demand. Freeman R, Jackson’s Fortnightly Stock Report. Wanganui, December 14th. The yards at Hawera wore well filled with a large lot of useful cattle. The attendance was good, but the bidding, owing possibly to the election excitement, was verv dull, hardly any of the pens being sold at the auction. I succeeded afterwards in disposing of about 400 head at full values. At the St Hiil-street yards to-day the sale for store cattle was languid at the auction, but the whole lots were sold, and the yards cleared during the afternoon. Sheep were in small supply, and met a good market. Cattle. —At Hawera 580 head were yarded— Forward 3-yeai-old bullocks, £5 10s ; fat cows, £4 15s ; cows and calves, £3 12s 6d to £4 7s 6d ; sleore £4 ; yearlings, £2 15s to £3. At the St Hill-street yards 230 head came forward—Fat cows, £5 5s (o £6 10s ; forward B-year-old bullocks £5 17s 6d ; 2 and 3-year-olds, £5 ; 2-ycar-olds, £8 l<s 6d ; 18-month-old steers. £3 5s ; cows and calves, £4 7s 6d ; yearlings, £2 10 s ; calves, 30s. Sheep.— At the yards to-day 200 were sold—Fat ewes and wethers, 9s Gd to 11s 9d ; wethers, 10s. Houses. —A large number were sold— Really first-class hacks, up to £l7 ; medium,'‘£B to £10; weeds and scrubbers, 25s to 60s. p lGS —Porkers, 8s to 10s ; larger sorts, 15s to 18s. Land.— l sold during the fortnight 200 acres at Waimate, part bush and unimproved, at £7 per acre. Exports.— 3o cattle, 934 sheep, and 41 horses. .
