Mr W. Whitmore, tailor, is suffering from dropsy in a serious form. Cricket match, 11 against 22, will be resumed to-morrow. Mr W. Dale, junr,, has let the building of his large new house to Mr Warren. The plan shows two storeys, 12 rooms ; and the building will be one of the most spacious and imposing residences in the district. Masonic Installation of officers for the ensuing year took place on Wednesday evening, in the Patea Masonic Hall. P.M. Brother W. Black, of New Plymouth, acted as installing Master, assisted by P.M. Bro. Wilson, Wanganui. Brother A. .Black was reinstalled as R.W.M.; the Rev. Brother Luxford, Chaplain and D.M.; Brother Taplin, S.M.; Brother Dixon, J.W.; Brother Eyton, S.D.; Brother Tayler, J.D.; Brother King, Secretary ; Brother A. Grower, Treasurer. The members afterwards enjoyed a light banquet. Several visiting brethren from other lodges were present. A Memorial is being signed in the town and district, asking the Ministers of Land and Public Works to complete a line of road from Patea to the Kohi by bridging the Whenuakura, thus giving access to the back of the Momahaki block, the University reserve of 10,000 acres, and the Kaitangiwhenua block. A bridge over the Whenuakura and a short piece of road would be a great convenience to a large number of settlers, and be the best road to the further inland blocks proposed to be opened.
