Wanganui Education Board.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held at Wanganui on Wednesday. Present, Messrs Watt (chairman), Sanson, Coutts, Notman, Bridge, and Snelson. Building Fund, —The Education department, Wellington, sent letter notifying that £4,646 had been placed to the Board’s credit for building purposes. Haweba. —In reference to application from Mrs Boddy, for the position of assistant mistress at Hawera, it was resolved, That Mrs Boddy be informed that there is no vacancy at Hawera. Woodville. —At the last meeting of the Board a resolution was passed objecting to the proposed site as not

being suitable, to which letter had been received from Mr Gibbs arguing that the site was suitable. It was decided that Messrs Bridge and Oontts visit Woodville, and approve of a site. Manaia. —Letter suggesting that the new school buildings be raised a foot higher than was proposed, as the ground in the neighbourhood was very low. Also, stating that a reserve had been

obtained, and sending a copy of a telegiam from the Hon. Mr Rolleston stating that the building might be proceeded with at once. The secretary said that the architect had informed him that the building was already raised two feet from the ground. It was resolved, That tenders be called for the building at once. An application for the Manaia school was received from Mr Halliwell. Ngaire. —Letter stating that a meeting, held for the purpose of deciding between Ngaire and Eltham for a school district, had passed a resolution in favor of the foi’tner, and a school committee had been elected. It was resolved that the architect be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for a school at Ngaire, to contain 120 scholars, to be advertised at the same time as the Manaia. P a tea. The secretary was instructed to express the Board's surprise that the Patea School Committee had not paid any attention to repairs required at the school-teacher’s house.

The Board then adjourned till the last Tuesday in November.
