The contract price for the Patea Goods Station, now being erected by Messrs J. and C. Bull, is £655. Mr Janies Lett, who was thrown from a spirited young horse on Friday, near his residence, and remained insensible till Saturday, is now recovering. Fortunately no permanent injury is sustained.
Mr Cowern’s land sale on Saturday was highly successful. The long leasehold frontages in Egmont-street ranged from 15s to 7s 6d per foot frontage annual rent. The small building sections behind these ranged from £ll 2s 6d to £2 annual rental. The sections near the Hospital also were all sold ; the day’s total being equal to a capital value of £15,000. Two leases of the Harbor Board did not sell. Particulars in next issue.
The Wakatipu Mailh asking whether Mr T. Fergus intends to contest the Lake district against Mr Thomson, who is said to be “ making hay on the quiet.” The Resident Engineer at Patea, Mr Hunter, is to be transferred to Hamilton, Waikato, at the end of this month. He and Mrs Hunter will be missed by many friends. Mr Holmes, New Plymouth, will oversee the office temporarily.
