Freeman R. Jackson’s Fortnightly Stock Report. Wanganui, Oct. 5. The yards at Waverley on Friday last were well filled with cattle and sheep. Prices were well maintained, all the lots being sold at or after the auction. The sheep were really good the hulk being from Mr Milne’s farm. At the yards today the bidding was dull, and the prices not up to last sales. Some of the pens of* cattle were turned out unsold. Fat sheep were of the best quality, and sold Is per head under last sale rates. A large entry of horses made up the sale ; unbroken draughts were fairly competed for, but hacks were dull of sale and difficult to quit, except at low values. Cattle. —At Waverley 630 head were sold : store bullocks in good condition, £5 17s 6d ; fat cows, £5 7s 6d ; breeding cows, £8 15s to £4 10s ; cows and calves, £4 16s ; steers, £3 17s 61 to £4 ; yearlings, £2 10s lo £2 12s 6d. At St Hillstreet, 473 head were penned : fat bullocks, £6 7s 6d to £7 15s ; cows, £5 10s to £6 ; store bullocks, £5 2s 6d ; yearlings’ £2 7s 6d. Sheep. —At Waverley 533 were sold ; ewes, in lamb, 18s; hoggets, 12s; wethers, 14s 3d. At the yards to-day 993 were yarded : fat wethers, 14s 3d to 15s ; hoggets, 11s 9d. Horses. —Unbroken draughts, £9 10s to £l9 5s ; unbroken backs, £1 5s to £3 10s ; broken backs, £8 to £l2. Exports. —so cattle and 595 sheep. CANTERBURY STOCK REPORT. (From Canterbury Times.) A full supply of fat stock was yarded at Addington on the 29th. Sheep. —There was a large Jot of prime and good quality cross-hreds, with a fair supply of merinos. The biddings opened dull, but as the sale advanced competition was keener, and pimes a shade in advance of last week’s quotations were obtained. Prime cross-bred -wethers made from 17s to 18$ ; good ditto, from 15s tp 16s 6d ; prime merino wethers, 12s and 12s 6d ; good dittOj from 9s 9d 10 10s 6d. We quote per lb as an average for mutton. Store merino ewes, with lambs at foot, sold readily at 13s 9d ; fat lambs, from 8s lo 15s each, according to quality, Cattle.— There was a good supply of fat cattle brought forward, for which description the biddings were brisker than at last - week’s sale, and the bulk of those yarded found buyer's at about equal to 25s per lOOibs. A fair supply of store cattle pame to hand, which sold readily at prices a shade in advance, of late rates. CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE. (From Canterbury Times.) Scarcely any variation has taken place in the grain market up to the 30th Sept. Business has not displayed' any great activity, .and the feeling on the whole is one of quietness. English cable advices report an upward tendency, while actual quotations have advanced fully Is per quarter. Wheat is still quoted at 4s 4d to 4s 6d, and for superior lots more money is obtainable. Some parcels of broken have been sold at 3s 6d to 4s. Oats have not shown any improvement*, during the week. The market continues listless, and no business can be done unless at a shade under rates ruling a short time ago. Quotations stand at 2s Id for millr ing and Is lOd to 2s for feed quality. Barley.— Sales of barley have been made up to 8s 6d for best grade, and second sorts at 2s 6d to 3s. The better enquiry noticeable for some little time is still sustained. Flour.— A fair trade has been done in flour. Millers have advanced the price 10s, and best brands are now quoted at £ll 10s.
Kye-gkass is quiet, and prices rule from 5s fid to fis, according to sample.
