On the 28th of the same month, the Board replied as follows ;'— ‘‘ Fie site— It was resolved that the Board cannot entertain the question of- building 'until a suitable site has been; legally conveyed to the Board. It Is a slanging order from which there is no, departure. —-I am &c., A. A. Browne, Secretary.” Clause 77, Education Act,. 1877: “ On the application of the Committee, the Board of the District may hereby purchase, lease, or acquire a suitable site or sites for a school house.”
I, like my friend Mr Marchant,' fail to see anything, either in the Act or in equity, in the Board trying to compel the country settlers to purchase . school sites for their own use, and at the same time pay through the . Consolidated revenue to purchase school sitesfor Mr Coutts and his fortunate neighbors to get their families educated. Hoping the Education Board will depart from their Standing Order, which I suppose in these enlightened times, is not like the laws of the Modes and Persians of bygone days.—l am &c.,
