MANAIA.
(from o u r c or re s p on d en t.) In answer to a letter froin Mr J. C. Yorke, Chairman of the Waimate Road. Board, requesting that sections 11 or 14, block XIV., might’be vested in the Waimate Road Board as a site for offices, a reply was received from the Under Secretary for Commissioner Crown Lands, ; stating that sections asked for would probably be wanted for General Government purposes, but that Captain Wray would indicate which sections in township would he available. The Chairman then wrote ; to Captain Wray and received the following reply’-: “I think block IX. seems the i most convenient. Section 20 is the only one sold in the block, and 8 and 18 ar e Municipal Reserves. How'would section 19 do ? I presume you propose building, but you do not say.” The Board will consider this matter at next meeting, to be held Bth September. A sale of a few feet frontage to the main street, and nearly opposite Mr Mc-
Carihy’s new house, has been effected at £5 per foot—a fancy price, I should say. The new hotel for Mr Dolan, at Otakeo, has just been commenced. Mr J. O’Brien, the successful tenderer, hopes to finish the work in two months. N Later.— l hear that the building of Mr Dolan’s hotel is stopped, through the Maori scare. ♦- ■ —-
