SHORTHORN CATTLE.
Shorthorn breeders will be interested in the figures given relative to the sales of shorthorns which have been recorded in the United States for the year 1880. The number of animals sold was 3222, and the mean average was £3O. Tn 1879, the average for 2865 animals was £23 19s 2d; in 1878 it was £32 5s lOd for 2048 animals; in 1877 it was £47 18s 4d for 3227 animals: in 1876 it was £175 4s 2d for 4004 animals; in 1875 it was £B7 18s 4d for 4347 animals; in 1874 it was £BO 4s 2d ; in 1873 it was £llO 16s Id for 1836 animals; in 1872 it was £65 4s 2d for 1014 animals; in 1871 it was £6O 8s 4d for 407 animals ; and in 1870 it was £7l 9s 2d for 495 animals. Daring the 11 years recorded above, the recorded sales have reached an aggregate of 26,151 animals sold, and the mean average has been “ a fraction short of 294 dol."—£6l ss.
