The following cable messages to the 18th August, have been received via Melbourne Argus : Mr Gladstone has received a present of an arm-chair from the Liberals of Greenwich. It is announced in Dublin that the Irish Land League has received £SOOO of subscriptions from Australia. Mr Herbert Gladstone, one of the assistant private secretaries to the first Lord of the Treasury, son of the Premier, has been appointed a junior Lord of the Treasury without pay, Russian nobles are joining the ranks of those who are conspiring to accomplish the assassination of the Czar and his brother the Grand Duke Vladimar. Germany is endeavouring to carry out a scheme for the union of Alsace with the adjoining Grand Duchy of Baden, with a view to establishing a New Rhine Kingdom. At a meeting held at Belleville, one of the Parisian suburbs, M. Gambetta essayed to deliver an address, but the assembly refused to listen to him, drowning his voice with revolutionary songs.
