WAVERLEY.

The Mail has over 90 subserbers between Whenuakura and Waitoiara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Waverley, Wednesday. The concert in aid of the -Church of England fund which takes place to morrow (Thursday), should be a success, judging from the programme. The only thing to be feared is the weather, which it is needless to remark, is rather uncertain at the present time. In addition to local talent, vocalists from Wanganui and Patea take part in it, having kindly offered to assist. Mr F. R. Jackson holds his monthly sale on Friday. There are not a great number of entries as yet, but probably there will be more. While on the subject of cattle—the proprietors of one of bur local drapery establishments were rather startled the other day at the entrance into the shop of a real live bull. When a bull enters a draper’s shop he is supposed to want “ muzzling.” This one however, I am informed, contented himself with serenely surveying himself in a large mirror which stands in the shop, and the inspection proving satisfactory made his exit without any further damage than a slight fright to the occupants. The Wairoa Highway Board hold their monthly meeting on Saturday next. It is contemplated to make defaulting ratepayers “fork out.” This is necessary, as . since subsidies are stopped the Board has to depend on the rates to maintain roads, &c., so ratepayers should do all they can to assist the Board in carrying out theii duties.

The Cemetery Trustees have not j T et made a start to effect the improvements suggested some time back, but I believe are “ talking ” of doing something. It is to be hoped this matter will not be allowed to drop, as the Cemetery is really in a disgraceful condition.
