FARMING PROSPECTS.
A southern journal commenting on the reported deficiency of the American wheat crops, and the damage to English and French grain crops by rain, says— The immediate result has been a rise in the price of wheat, and a still further rise may be anticipated. This will be good news to our farmers, not only as affecting the price of wheat now on the way to England, but also to some extent the prospects of the coming season. The winter in this Colony has been highly favourable alike to agriculturists and pastoralists. Sufficient rain has fallen to thoroughly soak the ground, and yet agricultural operations have suffered comparatively little interference from bad weather. This is due to the fact that the rain storms have been heavier, bat of less frequent occurrence than usual. The autumn sown crops are everywhere looking magnificent, and the spring crops will be got in . excellent order. Owing to the comparative mildness of the, winter, stock have generally
done well, and are in much better condition now than is .usual at this time of the year. Altogether, both stock and crop prospects are excellent.
