SHOCKING ROADS .

G. A. M. writes from H.awcra :— ‘‘ Have just ridden up from Woodville. Road was never worse that it is now in some places between Manutahi and Manawapon. Three surfacemen arc bravely struggling to keep it passable, but permanent repairs are hopeless until fine weather comes. Two broken-down buggies are abandoned by the way side on that piece of road, waiting for better times. I have to go on to Stratford: pleasant prospect! The whole of the road from Manutahi. to Hawera is very bad in places, except where macadamised ; long may the great Scotchman’s memory* flourish.
