A number of members of the Assembly left Wellington for New Plymouth in the Stella on Friday to personally inspect the New Plymouth harbor works. On landing they were at once conveyed to the harbor works, accompanied by the chairman of the Board. Owing to the schooner Telegraph not being able to get into the Waitara river during the late bad weather, the crew ran short of provisions, and were three days without water. Up to the present time £42,500 has been expended on the Christchurch Cathedral, and £15,000 more is required to complete it.
