MARKETS.

Freeman R. Jackson's Fortnightly Stock Report. Wanganui, August 10. The yards during the past fortnight have been well filled with stock of a useful description, I have no improvement in value to report, although an increased demand seems apparent. The boisterous weather has prevented anything like the usual amount of export trade for fat stock. The sale at Hawera was especially dull ; nearly all the pens were turned out unsold, the market value not being offered for them. At Mr Mitchell’s clearing sale, Waverley, the attendance was good, and capital prices were obtained for all the lots at the hammer. At Waverley the following week prices receded somewhat, but a large number were cleared. The yards to-day were full to overflowing, the attendance being large and the bidding spirited. Nearly every lot was sold at or after the auction, at fair values. Sheep were fairly competed for at the quotations below. Pigs were dull of sale at reduced prices. Horses were a little better, nearly all being sold at the hammer. Cattle. —At Hawera about 400 head were yarded—Fat cows, £5 15s; milch cows, £4 10s to £6 ; yearlings, £2 ss. At Mr Mitchell’s sale 350 were sold— Cows, £4 ; heifers, £3 12s 6d ; steers, £4 7s fid to £4 17s fid ; yearlings, £2 16s. At Waverley, 450 head were penned— Cows, £2 5s to £3 7s fid ; steers, £5 5s ; fat cows, £5 15s ; yearlings, £2 7s fid ; cows and calves, £5 ss. At the St. Hill Street yards to-day, 586 head were sold— Fat bullocks, heavy weight and very prime, £lO 2s fid ; cows, £7 15s ; bullocks, £4 12s fid to £5 19s fid ; cows, £3 7s fid to £4 ; yearlings, £2 12s fid ; milch cows, £5 5s to £6 ss. Sheep. —At Waverley 1200 ewes in lamb made 13s 3d to ISsjfid. At the yards to-day—Fat wethers, I4s 3d to 14s fid ; store wethers, 11s ; lambs, 7s ; ewes in lamb, 11s 9d to 12s. Pigs.— Porkers, 9s to 20s ; stores, 3s to fis each. Horses. —Hacks, L 5 to LlO ; draughts, up to L27s 10s. Exports. —4o head of cattle, and 316 sheep.
