The formal transfer of Government of the Transvaal to the Boers has taken place, and proclamation is issued announcing the establishment of a South African Republic. AFFGHAN STRIFE. Calcutta, 9th. Intelligence from Affghanistan reports further serious defections from the ranks of the Ameer’s army in Candahar. The bulk of Adburrahman’s infantry have deserted and joined Ayoub Khan. MORE SMALL POX. Sydney, 9th. Two fresh cases of small pox are reported from Croydon, about five miles to the west of this city.
