POLITICAL GOSSIP.
FROM OUR PARLIAMENTARY CORRESPONDENT. Monday Night. A committee which had been elected at the meeting of Auckland members waited on the Premier to-day. Mr Sheehan, as spokesman, said the time had arrived when more regard should be paid to the native population, numbering 45,000, and he asked what the Government proposed as to general representation of the North Island. Mr Hall handed the official map to Mr Sheehan, in which is mapped off a separate constituency for the Patea County called Waitotara district, also a now district on the East Coast. Mr Hall admitted the native claim was forcible, but said that to do what Mr Sheehan asked would deprive the South of some members. Mr Sheehan urged an increase for the whole colony. A caucus of Wellington will to-morrow support this movement for more Northern members. When Government bring down the proposal for reducing the Property Tax, a strong debate is expected. Mr (Jrmond is expected to move a resolution tantamount to a motion of no confidence. Public Works Statement is expected to be made by the Premier to-morrow night.
