Not being a member of the Fire Brigade* can any duly qualified fireman tell me why they lit a torch on Saturday night to find the fire in Mr Barker’s chimney ? I was standing about, and the flame lit up the whole place ; but somebody was still rushing up to the roof with a lighted torch looking for a light. Shout-Sight. SIX-AND-EIGH TPENGE. Is is true that one of our leading counsel has received a retaining fee to shut his mouth in a case coming before the Court? Patea must be progressing when pleaders are paid to stop away, for fear their formidable forensic eloquence might defeat both law and justice.
