There are 18 lakes in Lake County— Wakatipu, Wanaka, M’Kerrow, Alabaster, Diamond, Sylvan, Harris, Wilson M’Kellar, Howden, Gunn, H.ayes, Moke, Diamond (near Frankton), Lochnagar, Luna, Rere, and Dispute. A proposition for the conservation of the lakes and mountain streams for the purpose of commercial fish cultivation has been under consideration. There are about 98,000 miles of railroad in Europe, 93,000 in the United States, and 27,000 in the rest of the world.
