There was a very good attendance and sevcial new members were proposed and duly elected. Mr F. R. Jackson’s monthly sale took place on Friday, and was well attended! prices on the whole ruling high. A concert is on the tapis in aid of the funds of the Town Hall, to take place at the latter end of the month. An attempt was made some time back to get a sufficient sum guaranteed to induce a medical practitioner to reside in our district, but for some reason the matter was allowed to drop. I think, however, if another start was made and the district well canvassed, there would not be much difficulty in getting tlie required guarantee. The want of a medical man here is a serious inconvenience, and without a guarantee it is not likely one could be induced to reside here. The Wairoa Highway Board held a special mealing on Friday last, when it ved to call for tenders for the lower Kohi Bridge approaches, the Kohi settlers subscribing £7 towards same.
