AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET. Messrs Hunter and Nolan report : Cattle. —There has been considerable activity in the market. Dairy cows fully maintained their values; stores were in limited supply ; an unusually large number of fat beasts were penned, and for those at all up in condition satisfactory prices were obtained. For steers insufficiently fatted, and cows, prices much lower relatively than for well fatted oxen, for which 30s per lOOlbs was given. Sheep were principally bought by the butchers, although there was a felt want of good store wethers for new grass, for which descriptions there remains an unsatisfied demand. Wethers sold from IBs to 17s 6d ; ewes 10s 6d to 13s 9d. Pios. —The supply is moderate, with no noteworthy alteration in value. CANTERBURY STOCK REPORT. (From Canterbury Times.') The supply of fat stock on the 29th June was very large considering the tone of recent sales, and in consequence there was a drop in prices of both fat sheep and cattle. The stock yarded comprised 5478 sheep, 347 head of cattle, and 209 pigs. Sheep. —ln fat sheep a very large supply of prime and good cross-breds was brought forward, and owners had to submit to a drop of fully one shilling per head upon last week’s prices. Extra prime quality, heavy weights, realised 21s each ; good ditto from 13s to 15s We quote 2fd as an average for mutton. Store merino wethers made from 5s 6d to 7a each ; fourtooth crossbreds (mixed sexes) realised 10s. Cattle. —Prime fat bullocks (heavy weights) sold from £ll 10s to £l2s 10s each ; good ditto from £7 to £9 15s. We quote 22s 6d per 1001b as an average for beef. Pigs. —Only a small supply of pigs were yarded, and biddings were more animated than at late sales. Best lots sold from £3 5s to £3 10s. CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE. (From Canterbury Times.) A fair business has transpired during the week ending 2nd July, in the grain market. The recent English telegrams reporting an advance in the price of wheat have imparted a firmer tone to the local markets. Wheat, —Quotations for all kinds are a shade better. Best milling has been sold at 3s 8d to 3s lid. Several parcels of split wheat have realised 2s 9J to 2s lOd. Oats have been dealt with considerably during the week. Best milling at 2s to 2s Id, and Is 9d to Is lid for feed. Holders of oats continue very firm in their demands. Potatoes. —A better enquiiy can be noted, the demand for export having appreciably revived. Considerable purchases have been made, and prices now stand at 32s 6d to 365. Flour is selling at £lO, but it is current some of the millers intended advancing prices from July Ist.
