PATEA AGRICULTURAL RETURNS.

The following return of land in cultivation and of agricultural produce in Patea County on Ist April last, has has been gazetted: Total number of holdings, over 1 acre, 376, of which 201 are freehold, 100 rented, and 75 part freehold and part rented; land broken up but not under crop 720; in wheat 1,679 acres, estimated to produce 42,191 bushels; in oats for green food 218 acres, for grain 1,073 acres, estimated to yield 37,643 bushels; in barley 98 acres, estimated to .yield 3,031 bushels; in potatoes 293 acres, estimated to yield 1,275P tons; In turnips 2,757 acres; in other crops 49 acres. Total number of acres under crop, exclusive of land under grasses, 6,167 acres. Of sown grasses there are in hay 1,330 acres, estimated to yield 2,352 tons; in grasses after having been broken up, including such as in hay, 14,360 acres ; grass sown lands not previously ploughed, including such as in hay, 65,901 acres; The quantities of last year’s crop remaining on hand when the returns were made in April were 2,05:0 bushels wheat, 1,760 bushels oats, and 260 bushels barley.
