FOREIGN TIMBER TRADE.

At the quarterly meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, the president said we are in hopes that a trade in timber, one of our staple products, may still find a remunerative market in Europe, and no doubt the constant efforts being made will result in ultimate success—the due reward for perseverance. I believe it is the intention of the Government to place a sum of money on the Estimates to further this object, more particularly in view of placing our timbers in the French markets, and it is expected that the mill owners will give a willing and ready assistance to attain so desirable a result.
