COUNTIES AND ROAD DISTRICTS.
A return presented to Parliament shows the population of the different Counties and Road Districts in 1878; also, the estimated value of the rateable property in March, 1880, and the revenue and expenditure for the year ending at that period. The total ai*ea of the Counties is 63,514,344 acres; population, 247,637; estimated value of rateable property, £2,663,627; total revenue, £513,834 ; expenditure on public works, £367,825 ; other expenditure, £111,351; population of road districts, 198,499 ; rateable value of property, £2,664,206 ; revenue, £334,116 ; expenditure on public works, £406,339 : other expenditure, £67,045. The receipts from all sources of the Counties for the same year were £664,319.
