CAPE EGMONT LIGHTHOUSE.
On and after the Ist August next, a light will be exhibited from the lighthouse which has been erected on Cape Egmont, the position and characteristics of which are as follow: The Cape Egmont Lighthouse is situated 259 yards from high water-mark on the cape of that name, on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The tower is 67 feet in height from base to top of ventilator, and is built of iron and painted white. The light will be a second order fixed white light, visible all around seaward between the bearings of N. 23 deg. W. round by East to S. 5 deg. W. The light will be elevated about 103 feet above the sea, and ? allowing'ls feet for the height of the eye, will be seen at a distance of about fifteen and a half nautic miles in clear weather, and at lesser distances according to the state of the atmosphere. The bearings are. magnetic and from sea-, ward. : Mr Simpson, a light .keeper, has arrived with hisTamily from Gape Fare- - well. Twelve of the armed Constabulary are to be stationed in the vicinity of the lighthouse.
