COMPANY RAILWAYS.
It was rumored in Wellington on Monday that a new bill, which Ministers are understood to have in preparation, aiding with land grants the construction of railways by private companies, will authorise land to be granted to the extent of one-fourth the cost of constructing such lines, the land to be appraised at its present market value, and suitable conditions being attached as to its settlement. No definite decision has yet been arrived at on the matter, it being still under the consideration of the Government.
