TO THE EDITOR.

[Correspondents are invited to discuss matters of public interest with fairness and brevity ; this journal being an impartial medium of discussion and advocacy for all affairs relating to the County of Patea.] CLUB LIQUOR SELLING. Sir, —Taking up “ Observer’s ” Jtheme on the above subject, he very properly ini timatesthe necessity fur police interference in this matter. If it be as rumored, that two or three magistrates are really members of the Patea Club, their countenancing such a prominent breach of the Licensing Ordinance should be brought under the notice of the proper authorities, who no doubt would very quickly intimate to the police the advisability of laying $n information against the whole of the , members of this club. If, as most likely, the police are laboring under the mistaken impression that by a portion of the Licensing Bench becoming members the club is entitled to ignore the Licensing Ordinance, it would be as well in their own interests to study the said Ordinance* and devote their attention to its fulfilment. A very prominent member of this gentlemen’s club was heard to state that “ Observer’s ” information was quite a joke. The joke viewed, from the Licensing Bench would undoubtedly cause him still greater pleasure, niore especially if the Bench inflicted a fine Tor selling intoxicating liquors without a license., : !
