LANDING SERVICE AT OPUNAKI

A meeting was held at the Telegraph Hotel, Opunaki, on Wednesday the 15th instant, for the purpose of considering the proposals made to form a Lighter Company for landing goods at Opunaki. Mr S. A. Breach was voted to the chair. Mr Brooking, who was in attendance with others from New Plymouth, said for the efficient discharging of vessels two boats of ten tons each would be required, and such was his faith in the project that if he could dispose of his property in New Plymouth, he would not hesitate a moment to procure plant and start on his own responsibility. He considered there were much greater facilities to work a Surf-boat Company at Opunaki than in New Plymouth, It was unanimously resolved—That a Company be started to be called ‘ The Opunaki Boating Company,’ with a capital of £I,OOO, to be raised in two hundred shares of £5 each, thirtysix shares to be reserved for men working the boats. The following provisional directors were appointed— Messrs Brooking, J. H. Newman, L. A. Breach, Maysmow, and W. Middleton,” It was agreed that the provisional directors should canvas the- district for shareholders, endeavour to procure a site on the beach for landing purposes, and generally to transact any business in furtherance of the immediate establishment of a Landing Service.
