WEAKAMARA SCHOOL SITE.

Sir, —In your issue of the 26th instant, Messrs Coutts and Bridge had reported against the Whakarnara school site, it being at one end instead of the centre of the district, and regretted the Committee should have put the Board to the expense of surveying it, and would recommend section 6, block 12 (not block 8) as a suitable site. On looking over the Wanganui papers, I see that the two members have another objection to the site fixed upon by the Committee unanimously, as well as the parents chiefly interested, viz., the site partly takes in the head of a gully, as shown on the plan forwarded to the Board in December last. I see by the report it is a deep gully, which to us Whakarnara residents is rather amusing, as a trifling valley in a piece of land, say from 10 to 20 or even 30 feet deep, is not considered by us a deep gully. At the temporary school attended by the children at present, the bush gully where the children play is ten times deeper than the gully in the site “ that is altogether unsuitable.” The outside public is led to believe this Committee resident in the district require two members of the Wanganui Education Board to tell them what is most suitable, and, considering the aforesaid two members are almost perfect strangers in this district, this Committee certainly does apper to be lamentably ignorant as to their own interests, as I opine it is of more consequence to parents who have children to educate than it possibly can be to two comparative strangers. I have no doubt the Committee will deal with the report in due course. F. J. Gang.
