PATEA CEMETERY.
A meeting of trustees was held on Monday evening. Present Messrs Sherwood (in the chair), Adams, Aitchison, Coutts, and Milroy. The receipts and expenditure showed a credit balance of £172 13s lOd on the Bth December last, and receipts to May 30th £33 18s 6d, The expenditure in the same period was £23 13s 4d, also £IOO placed at fixed deposit, and cash in hand £4 B.s Gd ; showing a credit balance of £7B 10s Gd.
It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Sherwood, to take in five acres of the hill near the Cemetery, including the old huiial ground, and that the same be fenced and planted, and a wicket-gate placed at the north boundary. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Slierwood, seconded by Mr Milroy, that two rows of upright cypresses be planted on the roadway on each side main avenue ; all other trees to be weeded and the soil around roots loosened ami top-dressed, and all space in gum tree belts to be filled with young trees. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Contis, that tenders be called for planting the five acres of hill to be enclosed, and for fencing same. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Aitchison, that a mortuary chapel he erected, and tenders called ; also that section pegs be placed in gionnd to indicate the location of graves as numbered in the register ; and that public seats be placed in main avenue. Agreed to appoint a gravedigger and care-taker, applications to be invited. A committee met on Tuesday evening, and arranged specifications and conditions of work to be done.
