Man Lost 27 Lays
IN THE BUSH. A man named Andrew Johnson left Fitzherbert on 28th April, got lost in the bush, and was only discovered at noon on Tuesday. He managed to work himself to the edgo ot the Manawatu river on Mr Ormond’s property. Immediately the news of his discovery was made know \ a rescue party was formed and carried him to Woodville in the Forty-mile Bush. The Manawatu Standard says: “ Johnson is terribly emaciated, and from over thirteen stone in weight is now but nine, having had nothing for four weeks but fern tops and berries. He was hoard cooing last Sunday, and yells like those of a manaic were heard the previous Saturday. He has probably been in the neighbourhood for some days past. He is sensible and talks rationally. It is expected that a few days careful nursing will bring him round. His escape from a lingering death or madness is the most wonderful it is possible to conceive. He was four weeks in the bush all but one day. The excitement in Woodville on the rteurn of the rescue party was intense.
