GRAND ENTERTAINMENT OF Professor & Madame HASELM AYER AT PATEA, TO-NIGHT ! TO-NIGHT ! ! Amended By-Laws of the Patea Harbor Board. IN pursuance of the 57th and 215 th sections of “ The Harbors Act, 1878,” the Patea Harbor Board, hereinafter called the Board, make the following Regulations, that is to say—1. The term Wharfinger shall apply to such person or persons as the Board may from time to time appoint to take charge of the Wharves, and shall include his or their deputy or substitute. All dues, unless otherwise directed, shall be paid to the Wharfinger. 2. The exemptions contained in Schedule No. 5 shall apply to all the "Wharves and foreshore vested in the Board, without exception. The following Rules for the management of the respective Wharves shall be observed— WHARF RULES. 1. Each Wharf shall be open for receipt and delivery of goods on all days except Sundays, Christmas Days, and Good Fridays. Vessels may load and discharge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 1 April to 30 September, and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from 1 October to 31 March. 2. The Wharfinger shall receive all goods landed at the ship’s side, and. give a receipt for the same : provided always that he need not give such receipt for twenty-four hours, unless, previous to the vessel commencing to discharge, he has been supplied by the Master of the vessel with a copy of the Manifest or Freight List, showing the weights and measurements on which freight is charged. 3. The Wharfinger shall receive all goods intended for shipment, and give receipts for the same, and, if required, obtain the signature of the Mate or Purser to shipping notes. 4. All vessels lying at the Wharf shall have properly fixed gangways for reaching the Wharf, and shall, throughout the night, show a proper light at the gangway, to the satisfaction of the Harbor Master. 5. The Wharfinger shall provide all labor on the Wharves (except at such Wharves as may be erected by, or with the consent of, the Board for special purposes), and for loading and unloading, beyond the assistance of the person in charge of the goods, and shall he responsible for all goods in his custody. 6. The Wharfinger shall have control of all carts and vehicles attending the wharf, and shall admit such in their proper turn for loading or discharging. 7. If the Wharfinger, on application, neglect or refuse to give delivery of any cargo landed, to any consignee, or his authorised agent, within the time specified in clause 1 of the Bye-laws, any costs afterwards incurred to store such goods for their safe custody 7 shall bo borne by the Wharfinger, 8. Ballast and coal shall not be deposited on any Wharf ; and persons loading or discharging either, shall provide means to prevent any portion thereof falling into the water. 9. No goods shall be allowed to remain on the wharves, or on the approaches thereto, or on the foreshore beyond the twenty-four hours for which free storage is granted. If any goods so remain without the consent of the Harbor Board, any person appointed by the Board for that purpose may remove the same to any of the premises of the Board or other convenient place, and keep the same until payment to the Board of the expenses of such removal, and of the keeping of the goods ; and if ' such expenses be not paid within seven days after demand thereof made upon the owner, or if such owner cannot be found, or shall be unknown, then after the Board shall have given public notice by advertisement at least once in each of three consecutive weeks in some newspaper circulating at this Port, the Board may sell such goods by public auction ; and out of the proceeds of such sale pay all dues and charges payable thereon, and the expenses of removal, and of the sale thereof ; and the surplus (if any) shall be rendered to the owner on demand. 10. Masters of vessels and Shippers to supply the Wharfinger with a list of cargo to be shipped or landed, together Avith the particulars of weight or measurement on which freight is calculated, and Wharfage to be paid accordingly, unless the measurement of weight be found incorrect, in which case the same is to be paid on the correct measurement or weight. 11. The Wharfinger need not take delivery, or bo in any way responsible foxgoods, unless landed on the Wharves. 12. The penalty for the breach of any one of these Bye-laws shall be such sum of money as the Court inflicting the same shall, in its discretion, order ; not exceeding for each or any breach the sum of £2O. Schedule No. 1. Wharf Charges, including Labor and Storage for Twenty-four hours, the time to he computed from 5 p.m. of the Day of Delivery. Wool, Fungus, and Flax, per bale, 9d Coal, when in bags and trucked, Is fid per ton Coal, when taken from vessel’s side in bulk, Is per ton Horses, Bullocks, and other large animals, 2s each Calves, under 1 year, 4d each Sheep, Pigs, and other small animals, 2d each Sheep, after the first fifty 7, Id each Carriages., Carts, and other Vehicles, being cargo, 2s fid each Timber, 100 superficial feet, 3d (Shingles, per 1000, Is fid Palings, per 100, fid Bricks and Slates, per 1000, 2s fid Hides, loose, Id each Hides, in sacks, 2s per ton. Sheepskins, 4d per bundle 400-gallon Empty Tanks, Is fid cadi All other goods, weight or measurement, in packages over 1 ton, Is fid per ton Fractions of a ton, one-third, fid Fractions of a ton, two-thirds, Is All other goods, weight or measurement, in packages over one ton and not exceeding two tons, at the rate of 2s per ton All oilier goods, weight or measurement, in packages over two tons, 5s per ton Schedule No. 2.
