Present: Messrs Taylor, Read, Bowie, McFarlane, and Chairman. Tenders received for lease of cricket ground for 6 months :—J. B. Taylor, £5 5s ; F* P. Fookes, £4t ; W. Davis, £2. Resolved, That Mr Taylor’s tender be accepted* Resolved, That a rate of Is in the pound be struck for the year ending March 31st, 1882. Mixed. —I notice the Chronicle of Tuesday last in its telegraph columns has the following in its report of Wilkinson’s case:—“At 12 o’clock, there being no sign of agreeing, the Judge dismissed the jury. The same charge will come on again this morning. Dogs started a pig. He set off in pursuit, joined by two men, one of whom carried a gun. Ho discharged one barrel but it missed. He appears in good spirits, has a robust constitution, and is likely to pull through.” Are we to gather from this that the Judge set off in pursuit of the pig, or did the pig set off in pursuit of the jury ? Is the Judge or the pig in good spirits? If the Judge, I suppose he must have caught the pig. If the pig, I suppose he rounded on jury. I am anxious to know how the matter ended.
