The Mail has over 90 subserhers between Whenuakura and Waitotara.

BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL , Monday Evening. The entertainment on Friday evening went off in a satisfactory manner, the Hall being quite full, but oAving to some of the speakers rather exceeding the limit some parts* of the programme had to be omitted. The songs were well rendered, and several encores were given, the gem of the evening, I think, being a very pretty little song by a lady. The piano was ably presided over by a lady Avhose musical talent is too Avell known to need comment. The football club held their annual meeting on Saturday, several new members joining. The balance sheet was read, showing a credit balance, and after electing office-bearers for coming year, it Avas decided to commence practice at once. The Town Hall Company hold their annual meeting on Monday, 16th instant, to elect new directors, receive balance sheet, &c. A lecture in aid of the funds of the Presbyterian Church, by Sir William Fox, takes place in the Toavh Hall on Friday next. Subject, “ Travels in the Holy Land.” This should be an interesting lecture. WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Highway Board Avas held on May 7th, at Mr Fookes’s office. Present, Messrs Johnston, Aiken, lon, McLean, and the Chairman. Treasurer’s balance : General account, £62 Is 9d ; Block VIII., £ls 0s lOd ; Block IX., 19s lid. Letters received from Rangitikei County Council, Manawatu County Council, Waverley ToAvn Board, Wanganui Education Board, Thomas Harris, P. Wilson, T. Riddell, and report from Foreman o* Works. Resolved, That the Chairman arrange with Town Board re gravel from Government pit. Resolved, That the Foreman of Works report on Waitotara river bank road leading to school-house ; also on Harrie’s road leading to school-house. Resolved, That Mr Wilson’s application be left in the hands of Messrs Johnston and Aiken to report thereon by next meeting. Tenders received for iron work for Kohi Bridge : J. B. Taylor 4d per lb ; Swann Bros. 4£d per lb. Resolved, That Mr Taylor’s tender be accepted. Tenders for Kohi Bridge : Matheson & Taylor, £2B 5s ; W. Beaumont, £3B 15s ; W. Davis, £4B 5s : M. Heating-, £75Resolved, That Matheson and Taylor’s tender be accepted. The folloAving accounts were passed for payment: Cheque-book, 16s 8d ; Hughes and Thurston, £6. Mr W. Lind waited on the Board re road to his property. Resolved, That Mr Riddell be informed that the Board have accepted tenders for Kohi bridge on the understanding that the settlers form the approaches as per his letter of 7th May. Resolved, That the Foreman of Works employ necessary labor to repair road to Waitotara Railway Station, Newing’sroad, and Upper Mangatangi road. ResoWed, That a rate of 9d in the £ be made for year ending 31st March, 1882, payable in one instalment on sth May, 1881.
