PATEA STOCK SALES. 27th April, 3881. Mr C. F. Barker reports :—There was a good attendance at my monthly sale. Sheer."—There were 3000 sheep yarded. Good store ewes sold from 5s 9d to 6s 3d, fat ewes 7s 6d, lambs 6s 3d. These prices were considered slightly in favor of buyers in consequence of the continued drought. The whole of the sheep yarded were sold either at the sale or privately, and I have enquiries for a large number of ewes of a bettor class than those offered at a considerable advance on these prices. Cattle. —lßo head cattle were j’arded, a fair proportion of which was sold as follows ;—2 year old steers £3 17s 6d, yearling steers and heifers £2 15s, milch cows from £5 10s to £O, 6 and 9 months old heifers £2. The continued dry weather has also affected very seriously the price of cattle, but should the drought break up soon I anticipate active enquiry. Horses. —About twenty light draughts and hacks wore brought under the hammer, and ranged from £5 to £22 10s. Pius.—Prices ranged from 10s Gd to 22s 6d. There is a fair demand for good breeding sows. I would call particular attention to my sale of Mr Southby’s stock, implements, grain, etc., which, being a clearing sale and without reserve, should be worth the attention of farmers. CLEARING SALE. Mr W. Cowcrn reports holding a clearing sale at Mr Fairweathcr’s farm on the 28th. The attendance was very large, and good competition was sustained throughout. The prices were considered good (regarding the large number of stock now in the market, and the scarcity of feed) Some lots fetched extreme rates. Cattle. —Yearling steers fetched £2 las, 18 to 20 months old £4, 2 year olds £4 ss, 3 year olds £5 ss, cows with calves £5 2s 6d, dairy cows £7 2s 6d to £lO each. Sheer. —Breeding owes 2 and 4 tooth 12s and 13s, wethers 11s Gd, fine lambs 7s, wether lambs 6s 9d, merino wethers 6s 9d. Phis. —Small porkers 13s 6d to 16s, suckers 6s, sow and litter £3 2s 6d, Essex sow £4, sows in pig 30s each. Horses. —Light draught £l3, £l7, £lB 10s, £24, £26, heavy draught mare and foal £4O, yearlings £6 15s. £7 ss, £lO 10s, 1 well-matched pair suitable for buggy horses £25. Implements sold fairly well. Farm Produce. —Potatoes £2 10s per ton on the ground, horse beans 4s 3d per bushel of 601bs, green peas 4s 4d per bushel of COlbs, barley 2s lid per bushel, chick wheat Ss 3d to 9s per sack. The lease was passed in, and is open for private treaty.
