MILK EXPERIMENT.
A writer in the (Southern Farmer says his cow gives all the milk that is wanted in a tamily of eight, ami that from it, after taking all that is required for other purposes, iflOlhs of butter were made. 1 this year, 'inis is in part li:s treatment of the cow:—lf you desire to get a large yield of rich milk give your cows every day water, slightly warm and .slightly salted, in which bran has been stirred at the rate of 1 quart to 2 gallons of water. You will ibid, if you have not tried this daily practice, that your cow will give 2~> percent. more milk immediately under the effects of it, and she will become so attached to the diet as to refuse to drink clear water unless very thirsty ; but this mess she will drink almost any time, and ask for more. The amount of this drink necessary is an ordinary water pailful at a time, morning, noon, and night.” As corn meal has been found to be superior to bran as a mixture to promote rich and large yields of milk, so the barley and oaten meals of Now Zealand, readily procurable and cheap, will be found bettor milk producers than bran, and will impart a vastly superior flavour to the milk, and a richness to the butter hitherto unknown in New Zealand.
