Mr Shrimski, in a late speech to Ins constituents, denied that the Grey Government had squandered the 5,000,000 loan. It was in the bands of the Treasurer all along, and was what was enabling the present Ministry to carry on the government of the colony.
TARANAKI CATTLE MARKET. Messrs Bauchope and King report— Cattuo.—On Thursday we held our fortnightly cattle sale, at the Waiwakaiho yards. We had a very large number of cattle and a good attendance of buyers, but the bidding was flat, although we cleared off a good number after (he auction. A large number of cows came forward, but few springing cows or heifers. The following prices were obtained ;—ll> calves, £1 Is to £1 15s 6d ; 130 yearlings, £2 5s to £2 15s ; 0 small poor yearlings, 55s ; 52 18-months-old, £5 to £5 7s Gd ; 12 2\ to 5 year old steers, £4 12s Gd to £5 Is ; 4 springing heifers at £5 10s, and two at £6 ; cows from £5 10s to £G ; heifer and calf, £5 5s ; bull, £2 7s Gd ; 5 store cows, £5 ; 1 store cow, £2 10s ; 50 sheep at 10s Gd ; 80 at 8s 0.1.
