FREEMAJN R. JACKSON’S FORTNIGHTLY STOCK REPORT. Wanganui, April 20. Tlio usual sales liave been held during I,lie last fortnight- one at Waverley on Friday, and the St. Hill-street sale to-day. Considering the dry state of the weather and the scarcity of feed, prices must be thought satisfactory. The yards were well Idled at Waverley with useful slock, and all the pens were sold at or after the auction. The yards to-day were not full. The beef consisted of large heavy bullocks, not quite suitable to the trade. 1 managed to quit them all at the quotations below. Sheep were well competed for at both sales, at prices in favour of the vendors. Hordes are without changeable quotation. Figs were at lower values. C.vm.i;. —At Waverley, 310 head were yarded —Grown steers, £5 ; cows and calves, £4 os to £4 10s ; cows, i‘iJ 10s ; calves, £1 2s fid to £2. At St. Hill-street yards, lot) head were sold—Fat bullocks, £7 to £«) 2s Gd ; well forward steers, To to £G bs : cows, To 10s lo £4 7s Gd calves, £1 12s Gd to £1 17s Gd. SiiKiii’. —At Waverley, 1-14-1 were penned—Fat ewes, 8s ; breeding ewes, 8s 3d to 8s Gd ; lambs, 4s Od. At the Wanganui yards, 1241 were sold—Fat wethers, 10s ; owes 8s Gd to 10s 3d : inferior ewes, os to o . Gd ; lambs, Gs; shorn and inferior, 3 s Od.
Phis,- Well-bred young pigs, up to 21s ; porkers. 7s to 10s. HousKS. —At last quotations. F.xi’oirrs. —14 cattle, 1207 sheep, and 32 horses.
I would draw attention to Mr Isaac Lupton’s clearing sale, which will be held at ihc Waverley yards on Friday, the Gth May, when a splendid lot of useful stock will be submitted. For the information of vendor.-, 4 may say that no other slock will be uttered on that day.
AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET. Messrs Hunter and Nolan reported on the 15th : Ilousns —There lias been but slight improvement in the market, and rather a limited number have changed hands. Un Friday there was an ordinary number entered ; bidding was raiher slow, but nearly all were disposed of at last week’s quotations. Oattli; —The market has been characterised by activity, and an unusually large number have changed hands. 'lhe Newmarket Yards were well idled on Tuesday, as were also the Fukekohe Yards on Wednesday. The advance in prices for dairy and store stock noticed last week were maintained, but although dUs per 1001 bs was reached for top sorts, the average was, say, Is per lOOibs less than la.-d week on 14L head sold to the trade. We quote ; Dry cows, from To to T4 lbs ; dairy cows, TO to Tl2 JOs ; calves, 2Gs to dds ; yearlings, dbs to 1:1 lys 10d ; 18-months-old steers, Do lbs ; 2-year-old steers, L 4 J2s Od jo-year-old steers Lo 17s Gd. Shi;i : i —The supply has been good and prices have been fairly maintained and there was no noteworthy alteration in last week's ((notations. Lambs were in limited number, and of inferior description. Pms—An increased number were yarded. Good porkers sold well, but coarse animalsin low condition were relatively lower.
