Gold Mining Swindle.
The Haven Gold Mining Company is the name of a swindle foisted on the attention of British speculators, and with some amount of success. The prospectus sets out that the Haven claim is at the Thames, within 500 yards of the celebrated Long Drive, and close to Hunt’s chum from the working of which one year brought the four £280,000 or £70,000 each. The name of the Chairman “ Foakes ” is very suggestive of “ hoax.” So well has the swindle taken at Home that prominent members of the London Stock Exchange have written and cabled for information. The Auckland people knowing nothing of any such compraiy have blown on the swindle. The Auckland Herald says: —lt will thus he seen that money is awaiting investment, and if a bona fide scheme were placed on the London market for the developement of some promising mines, or possibly the development of the lower levels of the goldfield, the probabilities are greatly in favour of it being successful. When this brazen attempt to gull the London capitalists attracts so much attention, surely a legitimate venture, backed by the best possible authorities, should prove successful.
