Murder by a Maori.

Mews reached Picton on Sunday evening that a murder had been committed at Waikawa. It was reported that Rawiri Kepa had quarrelled with his uncle, jealousy being the cause. Two successive fights took place on Saturday night. The wife of Pcni Peni assisted Rawiri Kepa to assault her husband, and in the last fight Peni Peni became insensible, and died on Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock. The matter was reported to the police at 5 o’clock, and Sergeants Scanlon and Kelly' were soon on the spot, and arrested Rawiri Kepa, who was found hid in a hay loft.

At the inquest held on Tuesday', Dr Scott slated that death was caused by compression of the brain by a blow on the temple.
