POISONING A BROTHER.
Information of a fiendish poisoning case n which, as usual in man’s trouble, a, woman, or rather two women, arc at the bottom of it, reached Jonesboro, Term., on January 14, from Tcnn. The victim is Ham Dewham, a young man of 22, who was poisoned by his envious sister. Dewham had formed an alliance with Martha Dunn, a young girl of his acquaintance. This was kept from his sister until arrangements for the marriage of the lovers were about to be made. The sister used every effort to suade him against marrying the girl. He was fondly attached to her, however, and would not listen to any proposition to give her up. He quietly told his sister that he was going to marry the object of his choiceThe girl was not to be thwarted, and she coolly set about cheating the expectant bride of her lord. On Tuesday night the sister mixed a dose of poison in some bread which her brother was to eat for supper. He ate heariiy of the food and was taken suddenly ill. He lingered for 24 hours when lie died in great agony. The murderess was arrested and confessed the crime, and says her only motive was envy of Ham’s betrothed. Miss Dunn was at his bedside until he died.
