PATEA STOCK SALE.
Mr C. F. Barker x-eports :—The first of m3 r monthly stock sales was held on Wednesday, at the Patea yards. The attendance was very large, and the bidding spirited for nearly every lot. Prices obtained for sheep and cattle were good, but horses did not command very great attention. Most of the Jots of cattle and sheep found purchasers at the sale. Some few, however, were quitted afterwards. There were 83 head of cattle, 1,736 sheep, 23 horses, and 13 pigs varded, I quote as follow : Cattle.—Fat cows, £5 ; fat steers, £6 os stores at £5 ; 2-year-old heifers, £4 7s Gd to £5 ; milking cows, £5 7s 6d to £7 ; calves, £1 7s 6d. Sheep.—Cross-bred ewes in good condition, 7s lOd ; mixed ewes, 6s 7d to 6s 9d ; 2-tooth wethers, 6s ; lambs, 5s lid to 6s 3d ; lambs in wool, os sd. Horses.—There were 23 horses entered. Draughts alow of sale ; 1 realised £27 ; the lowest price being £l7. There was a good demand forjgood light hacks; weeds very slow of sale from £5 to £lO.
