WAVERLEY.

The Mail has over 90 subscribers between Whenuahura and Waiiotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE HAIL, Wednesday Evening, Considerable dissatisfaction is felt by those who arc receiving timber &c. by the railway. Four hours are given for unloading a truck, and any further delay is compensated for by paying twenty shillings demurrage for the detention of the truck. At the stations along the line twelve hours are allowed for emptying a truck, and assuredly the time allowed here is too short when the delays in forwarding the trucks are taken into consideration. Public carriers should seek as much as possible to secure the good-will of their customers by treating all alike, while their servants ought to endeavour by an obliging and civil disposition to merit the respect of those with whom business arrangements bring them into contact. Two very salutary lessons it is to be hoped were taught by the trains on Monday evening and Tuesday morning leaving at the proper time, showing that if brevity be the soul of wit, punctuality is no loss of time. The drivers of the coaches

arc not to blame, as they are willing to make the best of the position —but they have such sorry cattle that they cannot make up any lost time, which occasionally will occur, and as a consequence they must be late. The railway authorities are to be commended fur insisting on punctuality, as a train waiting for coaches which have not come in sight is ignoring the lime-table and making chaos out of what is called system.
