MARKETS.
AUCKLAND MARKETS. Messrs Hunter and Nolan report: — Horses .—The market has been unusually active, and a large number have changed hands at prices satisfactoiy to vendors The Durham Yards were completely filled on 25th Feb., and many of the horses being of very good stamp, there was a large concourse of spectators, and competition was brisk throughout the sale, and almost without exception those submitted were disposed of. We quote : Hacks, from £5 10s to £25 ; light harness horses, from £ll to £2O 10s ,* useful, active draught horses, from £2O £25 10s. Cattle. —Dairy and store stock have been in rather short supply, but there was an ample one of fat beasts. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, less than the usual number of stores were offered and disposed of, nor were there any good dairy cows changed hands, prices of these descriptions remaining unaltered. Fat beasts were in full number, and there was a steady demand, at from 20s to 22s 6d per lOOlbs.
Sheep. —Above an average number of store ewes were submitted. The competition was good, and prices ranged from 8s to 11s 6d each. The butchers’ pens were occupied by ewes which, at this season, are looked upon with disfavor, but fully Is 4d per 81 bs was given. Lambs were in adequate supply, and sold at from 6s to 12s fid.
Pigs have been again very poorly represented, but good descriptions arc saleable at fair prices.
