AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKETS.
Mr Alfred Buckland reports—On Friday last fodder was in large supply, and better worth. Oaten hay brought from 3s 6d to 4s the cwt.; barley, 2s 3d the bushel. Horse stock of a good class maintained their values —steady draught brought from £2B to £34 ; medium riding horses, £l2 to £l4 each. A roomy American buggy, £SO. On Tuesday hides were first-class, in much larger number than usual, and sold freely, prices ranged from 34d to 4 3-16 d the lb. Sheep, lamb skins, and pelts were also in full numbers, and brought from 3s to 3s 3d each. Wool in grease brought from to the lb. The cattle sale at Waiuku, on Saturday last, was fully attended ; a moderate number of stock were yarded, and found local buyers at satisfactory prices. At Pukekohe, on Monday, an unusual large number of cattle met with an indifferent sale, and several pens were withdrawn ; prices were in favour of the buyers. At Remucra, on Thursday, inferior dairy cattle and store cattle were at lower values, but small-sized young cows at their profit were in good request. Fat cattle in full numbers ; 165 head sold. Prices slightly lower, about 5s each, than last week. Prices varied from 22s to 25s the IOOIbs. Sheep were in short supply* but slow of sale at opening of auction ; 2£d the lb was obtained, but prices fell as the sale proceeded to l*d, with a difficulty of selling. Fairly fatted wethers ranged from 9s to 12s each. Lambs were of indifferent quality, but at brisk inquiry at good values.
