CANTERBURY STOCK REPORT(From Canterbury Times.') The stock brought forward at the Addington yards on Wednesday, comprised 6081 sheep, 278 cattle, and 121 pigs. There was only a moderate attendance, the harvest still keeping many dealers and others away. The bidding was fairly good throughout, fat sheep being the most in demand. Sheep. —The pens offered included a large proportion of prime crossbreds and merinos. Best quality crossbreds realised from 12s 6d to 13s 6d ; good do, 9s to 10s 6d ; medium quality, light weights, 8s to 8s 9d. Extra prime merinos realised 8b 7d, others 7s 6d to Bs. We quote mutton at 2d per lb. Lambs were in good supply, and the demand both for grazing and the butcher was good. Prime lots sold up to 9.x, others from 6s to Bs. Stores were rather scai'ce, and those offered were principally old lots which changed hands at fair rates. There were no good stores really to hand, though sheep of this character are much enquired for. Cattle. —Only a small supply of fat cattle came forward, and they were principally of second or medium quality; Prime beef sold at the rate of about 17s per 1001b. There is no alteration to record in other kinds. Stores were in limited supply, and the sale was rather dull* Calves sold at from 37s to 41s ; 12 to 18 months heifers and steers, from £2 6s to £2 16s ; two and three-year-old bullocks, in forward condition, from £5 10s to £5 15s. Pigs. —The pigs offered were from Wanganui, and of a very rough character, consequently the prices afforded no criterion of the market value of good stock. CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE. (From the Canterbury Times.') The grain market during the past week has exhibited a slight increase of business which is indicative of the close approach of the season.
