Australian Cricketers.
The match in Wellington commenced at noon on Saturday, a fresh southerly breeze blowing and the sky dull. Wellington took the wickets with Kennedy and Brown, to the bowling of Spofforth and Palmer, the former taking the first over, off which three were scored. When Brown had scored 7 he drove a ball back to Spofforth, which was accepted (15—1—7).1—7). At the adjournment for lunch the score stood at 43—the highest scores being Blacklock (not out), 9 ; Salmon (not out), 7 ; and Brown, 7. At 4 o’clock all were out, Salmon being the highest scorer with 11, the total first innings being 82. The Australians went to the wickets, and half-an-hour showed 3 out for 13, Murdoch amongst the number. At 6 o’clock 65 had been scored. Monday Evening. The cricket match to-day stands thus— Wellington 82, Australians 117. The Wellington team is struggling grandly against an inevitable fate.
