WAVERLEY.
The Mail has over 80 subscribers between Whenuahura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL . Monday Evening. Jackson’s Salk.— The usual monthly .stock sale was held here on Friday. There was a large number of entries, especially in sheep. The sale was well attended, but prices in cattle were dull. Sheep were firm, fat sheep fetching 9s, and one saddle horse was sold for £5 10s. St. Andrew’s Church.— The Anniversary services were conducted by the Rev. James Patterson, of Wellington, both morning and evening. The church was well filled on both occasions, more especially in the evening. The sermons preached were suitable to the occasion, and were listened to with deep attention. There can be little doubt as to the character of the lecture to be delivered to-morrow (Tuesday) evening, and the funds of the church should reap a very material benefit from the visit of Mr Paterson. Episcopalian. —While on the subject of churches I may note the steady increase in the attendance of the members and adherents of the Church of England here, since they took possession of their neat church, and from the start being made free of debt, they must feel satisfied with the one strong effort which sufficed to provide for their wants in church architecture. Inspection Parade. —The Waverley Rifle Volunteers held their usual Inspection parade on Saturday. There were about half-a-dozen present, including officers. The poor attendance was owing to the busy times among fanners, of whom the majority of the volunteers are composed.
