KAKARAMEA.

(from our correspondent.) , , Monday Evening. , The old saying that accidents do not come singly was verified here on Saturday and Sunday. As Mr and Mrs Ball were returning homeward from town, and approaching Mr Fairweather’s, the horse which the gentleman w T as driving suddenly shied, it is supposed, at some bullocks grazing in an adjacent swamp. The vehicle, although not quite capsized, was- canted- so-much- that Mr Ball was thrown out, luckily without serious injury. Mrs Ball, strange to say, managed to keep her scat. After soothing the startled animal, they reached homo in safety. On Saturday afternoon also, a runaway occurred in the middle of the town. Mr

Brodic had entered his shop, leaving horse and trap at the door. Hearing a noise, he perceived the horse and trap going at “ the rate of knots ” down al the back streets of the township. Several persons who saw tire animal start off tried ineffectually to stop him; and at last taking it into his head to return to the main road, the horse shot round the corner ot the school fence at such a speed that over wont the trap, and himself too. Damages : one broken shaft; and three or four children playing on the road had a very narrow escape. Sunday witnessed a fatal accident—to a horse. It was ridden by Mr D. McCarty, of Patea. Opposite Mr Smith’s shop the poor animal gave a violent plunge and dropped dead. It is unknown whether heart disease or extreme heat was the cause of death. The School Committee met on Friday. Present: Messrs Clover (chairman), Payne, Paterson, and Hawkens. The Chairman’s report for the past year was read, and several accounts were passed for payment. The meeting adjourned.
