COURTING WITH A COLD.
Having sneezed again he said, “ Darlig, I cad no lodger lib wid—winout you. Widout you libc would indeed be a wilderness; wid ” She impulsively raised her hand and sneezed. He paused and gazed tenderly out of his inflamed eyes upon her convulsed features, Darlig,” he softly continued, seeing she was through, “ you cad neber know how mudge—ar-ooh-ah-ker-chew—ooh my ! Oh dear !” lie wailed, impetuously grabbing for his handkerchief, while the tears ran down his cheeks. She took advantage of the lull to unobtrusively apply her handkerchief. Susad,” he began again, grasping her hand with fervour, and clutching his handkerchief with equal earnestness, “ whad id libc widout lub? Nodding. Darlig, do you, cad you lub be enough do be by—ah ah-oo-ker-chcw ! Heavigs, thid id awvul. ’ He mopped the perspiration trom his troubled countenance, and then waited until she reappeared from behind her handkerchief when he resinned : “ I ask agaid, darlig, canyon lub be enough do be by wife I The young girl dropped her head upon his breast, put her arras around his neck, and was just about to speak the glad answer, when a sudden spasm shook her frame, and she, went off into a series of sneezes which fairly endangered the safety of her neck. “ Oh, by lub ! Oh, by brecious !” he syrapathisingly exclaimed. “ Speak, oh, speak-abooh-ooh-ker-chew !” he roared. She fell into his arms again, perfectly exhausted. " You'll be bide, all bide,” he gasped. I will, Hcdry, I will,” she hoarsely whispered. He drew her to him with all his strength, slipped the ring upon her trembling finger, and there they stood together, their reddened and half-closed eyes blinking in sweet, holy ecstasy upon each other, while their exhausted nostrils showed a dim refulgence, “ My poor darlig has got sudge a bad code,” he syrapathisingly murmured. " So had by Hcdry,” she softly whispered back. •• I dode garc for myseld. I—” he suddenly put her away, recovered his handkerchief, and instantly wont off in paroxysms of sneezes. " You raus take sub medicid for that code do-nide,” she said. •• Both ob us,” he added. “ Yes, a’d you’ll soak your feed in hod water ?” - I will ; a'd you’ll soak yours ?” he eagerly asked. I will,” she solemnly replied. ” Heavig bless you, my darlig,” my brecious darlig,” he murmured, clasping her again to his breast. And then he stole out in the dai-kness ; and she lingered a moment at the door, and heard his voice ring out on the night air as he passed away—- “ Ker-chew, ker-chew, ker-chew.”—From San Francisco Call.
